Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic Voluntary Academy student wins Gold at Bath Open Meet

Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic Voluntary Academy student takes part in Swimming Gala, winning Gold and smashing seven personal bests at The Bath Open Meet.

Madeline, 13, who is a member of City of Derby Swimming Club, competed in eight events with twenty-five other members at the event.

The Swimming Competition was held over a weekend in Bath in November. Over one hundred and fifty competitors from top swimming clubs from across the United Kingdom, competed in the event.

Madeline won the Gold medal for the 200m Fly Race after achieving a fantastic time of 2.39 in the final event. The time, a personal best, was also a qualifying time for next year’s regional championship. The gold medal added to the vast number of accolades and achievements she has already achieved in the sport.

The 13-year-old stated: “It was unexpected to get the Midland Time and to achieve Gold in the 200m Fly was amazing, considering I went into the last race in third place.

“Next year, when I enter the Midlands Championship, I aspire to qualify for the national competition and I hope to better my personal bests I set last time”

Aidan Smith, headteacher at Blessed Robert Sutton Catholic Voluntary Academy in Burton, congratulated Madeline on her wonderful achievement.

He said: “Madeline’s determination and commitment to putting in the training hours has really paid off. Smashing seven personal bests in a competition environment, is a fantastic achievement for Madeline and we wish her continued success in the future”.
