June 2017

Dear Prospective Students and Parents

We are very proud of our Catholic school and I am delighted to extend a very warm welcome to you.  The school has provided a distinctive Catholic education to the families of Burton upon Trent, East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire since 1964.

As a community we are committed to living out the Gospel teachings of Jesus Christ.  In all aspects of our work we believe that it is our mission to maximise the potential of every individual to allow them to achieve their full potential.  Furthermore, forgiveness and reconciliation are key elements that underpin all of our work and we pride ourselves on the calm and caring atmosphere in school.

The school prides itself on its highly inclusive philosophy and very openly welcomes children not only from Catholic families but also those of other religions, faiths or with no-faith backgrounds who want their children to be educated in a school where every individual child really does matter.  The school opened its own Sixth Form in September 2014 which of course also openly welcomes students from all local schools and backgrounds.

I place great importance on the ‘Four Tests’ by which any aspect of our work at school can be judged.  These are:

  • Parent/Carer Test
  • Diocesan Test
  • Ofsted Test
  • Self-Test

I strongly believe that if all of our work passes these Four Tests the school will be able to pass the final test which is the Data Test as we hope to see our students achieve the highest possible level of outcomes in their examination results.  The most recent external validation of our work is clear testament to the continued efforts of the school to maximise the potential of all students.   The October 2016 Ofsted Report described the behaviour of pupils as ‘good and they are helpful, polite and courteous’ and that ‘outcomes at KS3 and KS4 show improving trends.’  We are deeply proud of our inclusivity and in their report Ofsted also commented on the improvements made to support disadvantaged and SEN students.

Everyone at the school feels that it is ‘going places’ and we are very excited about the future.  We are again significantly oversubscribed for admissions for September 2017 and were delighted to have offered 14 additional places in Year 7.

School Transport

The school has worked very proactively to meet the challenge of ensuring that transport provision is available for all families who do not live within walking distance of the school but who want their children to be educated in a Faith school like ours.  We have therefore fully implemented our School Transport Plan in Partnership with locally based Midland Classic bus company.  This has secured cost effective and very flexible options for students living throughout the local area.  Please take a moment to look at the School Transport section on our website in the first instance but do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you require any more information via email:  claire.mills@robertsutton.staffs.sch.uk.   Please be clear that we do not see transport as a barrier to any child being able to attend our school.

Thank you for your interest in our school which is smaller than average and prides itself on its sense of community and family.  I really do hope that you might feel that we may be very much the right school for your family.

If you would like any more information about the school, please contact Claire Mills in the first instance either by telephone at the school or by email at: claire.mills@robertsutton.staffs.sch.uk.

Yours faithfully

Martin Cain
